
On 23rd February 2026, Friends of the Earth India released a publication and held a webinar critically examining the Union Budget 2026–27 from an ecological and justice perspective, asking whether public spending protects nature and livelihoods or promotes destructive development pathways. The discussion aims to foreground people’s rights and ecological sustainability in shaping India’s economic priorities. Click here for a full video recording of the webinar.

Government of India’s renewed push for nuclear energy, along with the proposed amendments to the Atomic Energy Act and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, poses serious threats to people’s rights, the environment, and the future of our communities. In response, civil society groups across the country are coming together to raise awareness, strengthen resistance, and promote sustainable and just alternatives.
As part of these efforts, Friends of the Earth India, together with its member groups and allied civil society organisations, organised a webinar on Nuclear Futures on Saturday, 25 October 2025. Please click here for the full video recording.

WE20: A People’s Summit on G20

One of the unprecedented challenges that the world is facing is the impact of climate change. Rising sea level, frequent heat waves and unseasonal monsoons are a few manifestations of extreme weather events. The transition from carbon-based fossil fuels towards more sustainable sources of renewable energy is a must. However, addressing the crisis requires trillions of USD in climate finance, debt restructuring or cancellation, and a shared international framework. The session will ask: What is the G20’s position on the climate question, can the G20 reach an agreement on climate finance, and, if yes, what will be the nature, amount and form of finance?

Sri Lankan Catastrophe and Similar Humanitarian Crisis in South Asia

As we witness an unprecedented economic collapse in Sri Lanka causing untold hardships and misery to the population, this has reached one of the worst humanitarian crisis. The economic mismanagement by successive governments that created and sustained a twin deficit – a budget shortfall alongside a current account deficit. As the Sri Lankan economic crisis hits hard on people, its is important for us to understand what lies ahead for South Asian countries who are also having similar situations.
