*From Forests to Oceans, From Mountains to Rivers: Our Territories and Resources Are Not for Sale*

5th June 2026

On this World Environment Day, Friends of the Earth India stands in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples, forest dwellers, fisher communities, peasants, pastoralists, workers, women, and all communities defending their lands, waters, forests, oceans, and territories from the growing assault of corporate-driven extraction and ecological destruction. Across India and around the world, we witness an intensifying alliance between governments and corporations that promotes destructive mining, mega-infrastructure projects, industrial aquaculture, expansion of fossil fuel use, privatization of natural resources, and the commodification of nature in the name of development, climate action, and economic growth. These projects prioritize profit over people, undermine democratic decision-making, violate human rights, and deepen the ecological crisis that threatens the future of life on Earth.

Across the world, Indigenous Peoples remain at the forefront of struggles against extractivism, land grabbing, militarization, and climate injustice. Their resistance is not only a fight for survival and sovereignty; it is a defense of biodiversity, climate stability, and the collective future of humanity. On this World Environment Day, we reaffirm that defending Indigenous sovereignty, community rights, and people’s control over natural resources is essential for ecological justice.

From forests to oceans, from mountains to rivers, our territories and resources are not for sale.

*DEFENDING INDIGENOUS SOVEREIGNTY IS DEFENDING OUR PLANET AND FUTURE.*
